Residents of Wales demonstrated their solidarity with Ukraine by participating in a charity trek to the summit of Garth Mountain on Thursday, March 20. The event was timed to coincide with the sunset on the Spring Equinox and aimed to raise funds for purchasing a power generator for Ukraine.
Participants gathered at 6:30 PM in Pentyrch, at the junction of Mountain Road and Heol y Pentre. A group of enthusiasts, predominantly women, climbed to the summit carrying Ukrainian blue and yellow flags alongside Welsh red-green-white flags with the red dragon emblem. At the mountain summit, participants celebrated this symbolic event with a small amount of Ukrainian vodka, which became a special moment of unity between cultures. The atmosphere was extremely warm and friendly – participants laughed, hugged, and sang, creating a true celebration of solidarity.
The event organizers encourage all concerned individuals to support the fundraising effort for purchasing a power generator for Ukraine through the donation page: https://www.justgiving.com/page/ukrainegenerators. The fundraising campaign is running under the slogan “Power for Hope.”
This event is further evidence that support for the people of Ukraine remains relevant among the residents of Wales, who are ready to unite to help a country that continues to face challenges.
