The long-awaited relaunch of the Ukrainian Book Club in Caerphilly has successfully taken place. The event featured special guests Olena and Nastya, ambassadors from the Ukrainian Library in Cardiff.
During the gathering, the ambassadors shared insights about the establishment and operations of the library, discussed their favorite books, and recounted meaningful experiences that books have brought to their lives.
Olena recommended “Night Train to Odessa” by Jen Stout for British friends curious about Ukraine. The book, written by a young journalist, chronicles the beginning of the war and was recently presented at Cardiff Waterstones.
Nastya shared her preferences among contemporary Ukrainian authors, with many of her recommendations quickly claimed by attendees for future reading. The ambassadors also facilitated on-site library card registration and agreed to a “courier delivery” arrangement to bring books to the Caerphilly club.
The event included “book speed dating,” where participants exchanged books, and concluded with plans for the next meeting on May 10th. For this upcoming gathering, members will read and discuss works by Lesya Ukrainka. While Marina Dubyna has recommended “Boyarynya,” Vlasova expressed interest in revisiting “Forest Song” (Lisova Pisnya).
