On the weekend of Orthodox Easter, the Ukrainian community in Cardiff brought colour, culture, and a warm sense of togetherness to the city centre with a vibrant Ukrainian Easter Fair at Eglwys Dewi Sant on St Andrews Crescent—right across from the Ukrainian hub.
The event was a true celebration of Ukrainian heritage and hospitality. Talented Ukrainian bakers filled the tables with beautifully crafted Paska breads and other traditional Easter delicacies, which sold out almost instantly. The atmosphere was alive with festive cheer, and it wasn’t hard to see why—everything was made with heart and artistry.
In addition to the irresistible treats, the day featured a rich cultural programme. Traditional Ukrainian songs echoed through the churchyard, bringing joy to attendees of all ages. Visitors had the chance to experience Ukrainian folk art firsthand through Pysanky egg decorating and Petrykivka painting workshops, both of which attracted enthusiastic crowds.
Children were treated to a range of hands-on activities that celebrated the season and Ukrainian customs. From Easter card making and a Paska decorating station to a lively egg hunt and flower crown workshop, the event was both educational and entertaining for families.
Beyond the fun, the day had a meaningful purpose. Through generous donations and sales, the fair raised over £500 to support Ukraine—a powerful reminder of the community’s solidarity and shared commitment to helping those affected by the war.
This joyful gathering was made possible thanks to the tireless efforts of volunteers, community members, and local supporters. As the Easter season continues, the Ukrainian community in Wales sends heartfelt wishes of peace, hope, and happiness to all.
Щасливого Великодня! Happy Easter!
