Ukrainian Art Exhibition by Olesia Miftakhova Opens at Caerphilly Library

A deeply moving and visually striking solo exhibition by Ukrainian poet and artist Olesia Miftakhova has opened at Caerphilly Library, The Twyn, Caerphilly CF83 1JL, and will run until the 17th of July.

Titled From War to Wonder, this exhibition showcases a compelling series of paintings that reflect the emotional journey of displacement, resilience, and rebirth. Each piece speaks to the power of creativity in the face of conflict, capturing the inner strength of those forced to flee war while continuing to create, share, and inspire.

The exhibition opening drew a warm and enthusiastic crowd, including local dignitaries and members of the Ukrainian community in Wales. The event was graced by Michael Prew, Mayor of Caerphilly Town Council; Cllr Dawn Ingram-Jones, County Mayor of Aberbargoed & Bargoed; and Cllr Jamie Pritchard, Deputy Leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council. Their presence highlighted the importance of cultural exchange and solidarity.

Jules Simmonds, former Mayor of Caerphilly, was also acknowledged for his kind and proactive support in helping bring this exhibition to life. Caerphilly Library Service offered a welcoming space and gracious hosting for this meaningful cultural event.

Olesia Miftakhova’s work is both intimate and universal. From surreal dreamscapes to deeply personal portraits, her paintings invite viewers into a world where memory, trauma, and hope coexist. The exhibition is not only a testament to her talent but also to the wider Ukrainian community in Wales—artists, organisers, and supporters—who continue to build bridges through creativity and culture.

The exhibition is free and open to the public. Visitors are encouraged to attend and immerse themselves in this powerful narrative of transformation and endurance.
