Caerphilly Ukrainian Art Exhibition Concludes with Heartfelt Donations to Library and Council

The Ukrainian art exhibition at Caerphilly Library has come to a meaningful close, with artist Olesia Miftahova presenting special gifts to both the library and Caerphilly County Borough Council as tokens of gratitude for their unwavering support to the Ukrainian community.

On the final day of her exhibition, Miftahova donated one of her paintings to the library and presented a special artwork to the council, acknowledging the incredible support both organizations have provided to Ukrainians in the borough. The presentation ceremony was attended by Councillor Jamie Pritchard, Deputy Leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council, alongside the dedicated team from Gwasanaeth Llyfrgell Caerfili – Caerphilly Library Service.

This gesture marks the culmination of what has been a significant cultural event for the Ukrainian community in Wales. The exhibition, which previously received visits from MP Chris Evans and other local dignitaries, has served as more than just an artistic showcase. As noted by community representatives, since 2023, Caerphilly Library has transformed into a true home for many Ukrainians, becoming a place of healing, connection, and community where art clubs, support groups, and conversation sessions have flourished.

The Ukrainian community expressed particular gratitude to Caerphilly County Borough Council for their continued support, which has extended far beyond the exhibition itself. From providing access to leisure centres for refugees to helping create the Ukrainian Gratitude Garden and supporting numerous cultural and community events, the council’s care and compassion have made a substantial difference in the lives of Ukrainian residents.

The exhibition, which explored themes of memory and self through Miftahova’s artistic vision, has provided an important platform for cultural expression and community building during challenging times. The artist’s donation represents not just artistic generosity, but a symbol of the deep connections forged between the Ukrainian community and their Welsh neighbors.

As the exhibition draws to a close, it leaves behind a legacy of cultural exchange, community support, and the power of art to bring people together during times of need.
