Welsh-Ukrainian Runner Takes on Venice Marathon for Ukraine Fundraising

Anastasiia Opalatenko, a young Ukrainian woman from the Welsh community, is preparing to run the Wizz Air Venice Marathon on Sunday, October 26th, as part of her ongoing fundraising efforts for Ukraine.

This latest challenge comes just one day after fellow community member Sofiya is scheduled to participate in the Snowdon Eryri Marathon in Wales, highlighting the dedication of Ukrainian women in Wales to supporting their homeland through athletic endeavors.

Opalatenko has already demonstrated her commitment to the cause through previous marathon participation. Last year, she successfully completed the Veloforte Wales Marathon, raising over £800 for Sunflowers Wales. The funds raised were used to purchase and send vital medical supplies to hospitals and paramedics in Ukraine.

Her upcoming Venice marathon represents another significant undertaking, with Opalatenko dedicating each step of her journey to Ukraine and the people who continue to show courage and strength during the ongoing conflict. The fundraising effort aims to provide direct support through donations that will be used to purchase medical supplies for those in urgent need.

The community has expressed pride and gratitude for Opalatenko’s continued dedication to fundraising efforts. Supporters can contribute to her cause through the provided donation link, with organizers emphasizing that every contribution will go directly toward providing medical supplies for those who need them most.

The initiative represents the ongoing commitment of the Ukrainian community in Wales to support their homeland, transforming athletic achievements into tangible aid for those affected by the war.
