The town of Abergavenny came together on Saturday, August 23rd, to mark Ukrainian Independence Day in a show of solidarity with Ukraine and the local Ukrainian community.
The celebration featured speeches, music, and reflection on Ukraine’s ongoing challenges. Thanks to the generosity of attendees, the event raised £1,278, which will be used to purchase essential supplies including thermal clothing for direct transport to Ukraine.
Helen Buhaenko, representing the local Ukrainian community, expressed her gratitude to all supporters and Mayor Philip Bowyer for his participation. “The warmth and generosity shown in Abergavenny mean a great deal. Every penny raised will go directly towards essential items for those in need,” she said.
The successful event highlighted Abergavenny’s strong community spirit and ongoing commitment to supporting those affected by the conflict in Ukraine.
