The Ukrainian Greek Catholic Parish in Wales will hold a special pilgrimage to St. Davids Cathedral on Saturday, August 2nd, joined by Father Taras Boychuk. The event combines an opportunity for communal prayer and spiritual reflection with a collective prayer for peace in Ukraine.

Holy Liturgy will begin at 3:00 PM, with transportation provided via bus from multiple locations including Newport, Cardiff, and Swansea. Several seats remain available for participants from these cities.

St. Davids, located in Pembrokeshire in southwest Wales, is Britain’s smallest city and home to its own cathedral. The 12th-century cathedral, one of the largest and oldest Protestant cathedrals in the kingdom, houses the relics of St. David and, according to legend, his tomb.

St. David (Dewi Sant) served as bishop and monk in the region, born around 500 AD in Pembrokeshire to royal lineage as the son of Prince Ceredigion and nephew of King Arthur. He died on March 1st, 589 AD, after living an exceptionally long and remarkable life, and was buried on the cathedral grounds. The Welsh observe this date as their national holiday – St. David’s Day, honoring the patron saint and one of the founders of Christianity in Wales.

Before his death, St. David instructed his disciples: “Be joyful, keep the faith, and do the little good deeds daily, following my example.” According to Pope Callixtus II’s decree, two pilgrimages to St. David equal one journey to the Vatican, while three equal a pilgrimage to Jerusalem.

During the cathedral visit, participants will learn about St. David’s life and activities, and discover why his altar with holy relics remains highly popular among pilgrims worldwide. Father Boychuk has called for God’s blessing upon the gathering, emphasizing the importance of unified prayer during these challenging times for Ukraine.

The pilgrimage welcomes all members of the Ukrainian community in Wales for this meaningful spiritual journey and collective prayer for peace in their homeland. Community members interested in joining are encouraged to contact the organizers regarding transportation arrangements.
