Swansea is set to host a special screening of the Ukrainian film “Ivan the Powerful” (“Іван Сила”) as part of a Children’s Day Film Marathon. The event will take place on Saturday, 8 November, from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Grand Theatre, Race Council, Singleton St, Swansea (SA1 3QJ).
Held in celebration of Universal Children’s Day, the screening aims to unite Ukrainian children, families, and all who love Ukraine. Swansea is one of 16 communities across Great Britain joining the “Culture vs War” film marathon. The film will be shown in its original Ukrainian language with English subtitles.
“Ivan the Powerful” is an inspiring historical story about a real hero who believes in himself, helps others, and never gives up in the face of hardship. The film features Ukrainian strongman Vasyl Virastyuk in the lead role, who proves that true strength is “not only muscles, but also heart”. The film, directed by Viktor Andrienko, also stars Dmytro Khaladzhi, Ivanna Sakhno, and Olga Sumska.
The event is free to attend, but it carries a charitable purpose: to support the pupils of the Chornomorsk Special School in Ukraine. Organizers kindly ask attendees, if possible, to bring and share developmental toys, puzzles, art supplies (pastels, markers, albums), or beginner-level English books. These donations will be sent to the children in Ukraine to show them the support of the Welsh community.
The screening is organized by KRYLA Culture, with support from the “Watch Ukrainian!” Association, and co-organized by Sunflowers Wales (Соняшники).
