On the weekend of 27–28 June 2025, Cardiff became the proud host of one of the regional heats and the gala concert of the World Festival of Ukrainian Art and Culture. Organised at Eglwys Dewi Sant, the event brought together performers, visual artists, and creatives of all ages to celebrate Ukrainian culture and heritage in the heart of Wales.
This international initiative, which travels across Europe, was led by acclaimed Ukrainian artist Bupavas Bubryak, who delivered a powerful vocal performance that resonated throughout the historic church. His rich, velvet voice, paired with the acoustics of the venue, left the audience deeply moved.
The festival opened on 27 June with auditions and competitions at the Ukrainian Hub in Cardiff. Participants competed in various categories, including vocal performance, dance, visual arts, theatre, photography, embroidery, and artistic handicrafts. The gala concert on 28 June gathered the winners and selected performers for a heartfelt and inspiring evening.
Each artist was awarded for their participation, with heartfelt applause from a diverse audience that included both local residents and members of the Ukrainian community. A special moment of the evening was a group performance that united children and adults in national costume, showcasing the strength and beauty of Ukrainian traditions.
The event was made possible thanks to the tireless efforts of Tetiana Andriienko, supported by Nichola Bojczuk, Jurij Bacinsky, and Olga Bakar, as well as a dedicated team of volunteers. Their commitment ensured a smooth and welcoming experience for all attendees.
The Ukrainian Hub and local organisers expressed their hope to see the return of the World Festival to Cardiff in the near future, as it brought warmth, cultural pride, and artistic brilliance to the community.
