Cardiff, Wales – This Friday marked the very first gathering of the Golden Time 60+ group, a new initiative designed to support senior Ukrainian refugees now living in Wales.
Held at 24 St Andrew’s Crescent, Cardiff CF10 3DD, the inaugural meeting brought together older Ukrainian community members in a warm and supportive environment. The group was created to offer a safe and welcoming space for senior members of the Ukrainian refugee community — those who often face some of the deepest challenges in rebuilding their lives after displacement.
For many, the experience of uprooting from home brings not just physical hardship but profound emotional strain: the loss of familiar surroundings, the weight of language barriers, and the isolation that can accompany starting over in a new country. Older members of the community, in particular, can find themselves feeling adrift, far from the networks of support they once relied on.
The Golden Time 60+ meetings address these challenges by providing:
- Social connections through relaxed conversations and new friendships with people from the Ukrainian community
- Emotional support through heartfelt conversations and advice from those who understand their experiences
- Practical assistance with informal everyday English language practice, transportation guidance, and help managing medical and other daily matters
The gatherings aren’t formal lessons but rather a warm, supportive environment filled with friendship, laughter, and kindness. The group meets weekly at the Cardiff hub on Fridays from 2:40 PM to 4:00 PM.
Please get in touch if you or someone you know would benefit from these sessions — we would love to welcome them.
