Llanrwst Church Hosts Successful Ukraine Fundraising Event

The Ukrainian community in Wales, supported by local residents, came together at St Grwst Church in Llanrwst for a remarkable fundraising event that raised £813 for Ukrainian humanitarian efforts. The money will be directed towards repairing a medical evacuation vehicle and purchasing first aid kits for those in need.

The event showcased the rich cultural heritage of Ukraine through music and community spirit. Attendees were treated to traditional Ukrainian folk songs performed by talented vocalists wearing authentic vyshyvanka, the traditional embroidered Ukrainian dress. Classical music performances featuring violin and piano added an elegant touch to the afternoon, creating a moving atmosphere that resonated with the audience.

The program also included presentations about Ukraine, with speakers sharing insights about the country’s history, culture, and current situation. The Ukrainian national emblem, the tryzub, was prominently displayed as a symbol of unity and national pride.
Father Huw and the congregation of St Grwst Church provided generous hospitality, opening their doors and offering support to make the event possible. The Gothic Revival architecture of the historic church, with its ornate wooden choir stalls and beautiful stonework, provided a dignified backdrop for the cultural presentations and musical performances.

Church members actively participated in organizing and running the event, demonstrating the strong bonds of solidarity between the Welsh and Ukrainian communities. The presence of sunflowers throughout the venue served as a poignant reminder of Ukraine’s national flower and the hope for peace.

The success of this fundraising initiative reflects the ongoing commitment of Ukrainians in Wales to support their homeland while building bridges with their adopted communities. The funds raised will make a tangible difference in providing medical support where it is most needed.

This event represents just one example of how diaspora communities across Wales continue to mobilize resources and raise awareness for humanitarian causes, turning cultural celebration into meaningful action.
