It’s always a pleasure to see Ukrainians actively contributing to the social space—through creative, professional, and inspiring efforts—in a place that has graciously opened its doors and offered protection during difficult times.

On September 24th, the Liberty Care Music Festival for people with disabilities and their families took place at the beautifully selected venue of Blackwood Rugby Club.

The event was the brainchild of a Ukrainian, Kostiantyn Kozlov. Its unique aspect is rooted in the fact that, due to schedule constraints, people requiring companionship and care often lack the opportunity to attend cultural events. Therefore, bringing the celebration right to their doorstep—allowing them to enjoy live music and artist performances in a welcoming and specially adapted space—is another way to expand possibilities for communication and life experiences.

Staff from the Domiciliary Supported Living Service – Liberty Care Limited were actively involved in realizing the idea. A multidisciplinary team was also present to support and ensure the comfort and safety of all participants.

In a relaxed and lively atmosphere, about 100 festival guests—people with disabilities along with their families and caregivers—enjoyed performances by Ukrainian singer Lietta, the vibrant rhythms of the band “Joshua”, and the lyrical covers and original works of Izaak Hare. Karaoke was the most popular activity, with the main beneficiaries participating enthusiastically. The entire evening was accompanied by spontaneous dancing, smiles, and hugs. Guests also had the opportunity to engage in crafts, purchase handmade jewelry, and enjoy baked goods.

Cllr Dawn Ingram-Jones, Mayor of Caerphilly County Borough, joined the festivities and was clearly captivated by the atmosphere, spending time enjoying the music, chatting with guests, and taking part in the activities. The hosts greeted the distinguished visitor warmly and presented her with a special gift: a painting adorned with patriotic Welsh symbols. Reflecting on her visit, Mrs. Ingram-Jones later shared her enthusiasm, writing, “I can’t wait for your next event!”

Kostiantyn expresses his sincere gratitude to everyone who contributed to the organization and creation of the event:

“I would like to thank Liberty Care Limited, and especially Polly and Rachel for bringing this idea to life; Lietta, Joshua and Izaak Hare for their wonderful songs; Chris Davis for all equipment and help; all the volunteers who did incredible work creating videos, designing posters and introducing the bands; our photographer Daria Zhdanova, who always knows how to capture the most important moments; Team Multiply for their support; and everyone who contributed to making this festival such a success.”

The pleasant atmosphere, heartfelt upliftment, good mood, and spontaneity of the event, as well as its noticeable interest and attendance, suggest that the initiative was timely and successfully implemented. I hope that it will mark the beginning of more similar initiatives in the county and will have positive consequences in supporting socially less-protected groups, allowing them to feel a worthy level of acceptance and understanding.
