The UK Department for Transport has announced important changes regarding driving licences and vehicle registration for Ukrainians. The decision was published on February 10, 2025.
Key changes:
- The period during which Ukrainians can drive in Great Britain with Ukrainian licences has been extended by 18 months. The total period is now 54 months (4 years and 6 months) from becoming resident.
- This applies to licence categories: mopeds, motorcycles, and cars (category B).
- The exemption from registration and vehicle excise duty (VED) for Ukrainian-plated vehicles has been extended. The exemption period will align with the holder’s UK visa duration.
- New VED rules take effect from March 4, 2025.
Important: These changes do not apply to Northern Ireland, where separate driving licence regulations are in force.
