UK Government Extends Ukrainian Driving Licences Validity and Vehicle Registration Benefits

The UK Department for Transport has announced important changes regarding driving licences and vehicle registration for Ukrainians. The decision was published on February 10, 2025.

Key changes:

  • The period during which Ukrainians can drive in Great Britain with Ukrainian licences has been extended by 18 months. The total period is now 54 months (4 years and 6 months) from becoming resident.
  • This applies to licence categories: mopeds, motorcycles, and cars (category B).
  • The exemption from registration and vehicle excise duty (VED) for Ukrainian-plated vehicles has been extended. The exemption period will align with the holder’s UK visa duration.
  • New VED rules take effect from March 4, 2025.

Important: These changes do not apply to Northern Ireland, where separate driving licence regulations are in force.
