A charity concert held in Wales has raised £1,200 to support children with profound learning disabilities in war-torn Ukraine. The event took place at Powis Hall, Bangor University.
World-renowned harpists Veronika Lemishenko from Kharkiv and Elinor Bennett from Llanuwchllyn, who also organized the concert, led the performances. They were joined by young musicians from Canolfan Gerdd William Mathias, the Bangor University Chamber Choir conducted by Guto Puw, and the choir Côr Cofnod from Caernarfon.

Charity Through Music
This concert is part of a series of fundraising performances organized across Europe by Veronika Lemishenko. Her mother, Alla, who now lives in Gwynedd and teaches music to local children, actively supports these initiatives.
The Veronika Lemishenko Charitable Foundation, established nearly seven years ago in Ukraine, initially focused on promoting harp artistry, supporting young Ukrainian harpists, and organizing international music events. However, since the onset of the war, the foundation has shifted its focus to supporting volunteer organizations, medical institutions, animal shelters, and purchasing essential equipment for educational institutions.
Challenges During War
“These are extremely hard times for educational institutions in Kharkiv, where it’s impossible to hold offline lessons without a fully equipped bomb shelter,” said Veronika.
Elinor Bennett added, “The foundation also collaborates with the international Glowing Harp project, which includes competitions, festivals, masterclasses, and other musical events. All funds raised go directly to support Ukraine.”
How to Help
The Veronika Lemishenko Charitable Foundation accepts international donations, which are directed towards medical, educational, and humanitarian needs in Ukraine. Contributions can be made through the foundation’s official website.
This concert exemplifies how art can bring people from different cultures together to support those in need.
