Ukrainian Community Performs at Multicultural Fundraiser in Swansea City Church

On Friday, members of the Ukrainian community proudly took part in a vibrant multicultural event held at Swansea City Church. The occasion was a fundraiser dedicated to the Rhodri Morgan sculpture, which is set to be erected near the Senedd in Cardiff, symbolising unity and inclusiveness across Wales.

The event brought together diverse ethnic communities, showcasing rich cultural traditions through music and dance. Among the highlights were performances by talented Ukrainian dancers and a moving solo by young singer Eva, whose voice captivated the entire audience.

A lively dance crash course, led by choreographer Lyudmyla Kazmiruk, turned into a joyful celebration as attendees — including Welsh Government Ministers — joined in to learn traditional Ukrainian moves.

The fundraiser paid tribute to the life and legacy of Rhodri Morgan, the former First Minister of Wales, whose dedication to creating a welcoming and inclusive society continues to resonate strongly. His efforts to make Wales a place of sanctuary have had a lasting impact, especially among Ukrainians who have found a second home here.

“We were honoured to contribute to this event and to strengthen ties with other communities across Wales,” said Oksana Shapovalova, one of the Ukrainian community leaders present at the event.

The Ukrainian delegation expressed heartfelt gratitude to Dr Uzo Iwobi for her kind invitation and unwavering support. Her work in promoting diversity and inclusion has made her a cherished friend of the Ukrainian community in Wales.

This memorable evening served as a powerful reminder of the strength that comes from unity and cultural exchange — values that lie at the heart of both Rhodri Morgan’s legacy and Wales itself.
